Dubai’s economic development and tourism growth are set to receive a boost from upcoming business events taking place throughout the year.

The city’s official convention bureau, Dubai Business Events (DBE) won 232 bids for business events last year, almost double the number from the year before.

Scheduled to take place over the next few years, the events are set to bring in a further 135,000 visitors including business executives, scientists and thought-leaders to Dubai, boosting the value created by the business events and tourism ecosystem.

As well as their direct impact, the upcoming events, which will include conferences organised by global associations, along with corporate meetings held by multinationals, will contribute to Dubai’s growth as a knowledge economy hub, Zawya reports.

In 2022, Dubai won bids for 57 association conferences, a record high for Dubai Business Events. Last year’s strong performance highlighted a 95% growth in the number of successful bids from 2021, and a 92% rise in the number of delegates involved.

CEO of Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment, Ahmed Al Khaja commented: “The remarkable growth in successful event bids contributes to the goal of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 to make the city one of the top three global destinations for tourism and business. Inspired by the Dubai leadership’s economic vision, our goal has not only been to grow the business events sector and drive further visitation to the city, but also to ensure it can feed into the development of key sectors and professions.

“Dubai’s success in capturing business events in 2022, especially international association conferences, will play a vital role in further propelling innovation, professional development and knowledge exchange in their respective sectors and industries, and elevate Dubai’s standing within them. As we work to further advance the objectives of the D33 agenda for the next decade, the collaborative approach taken with public and private sector entities across the city will be more important than ever before,” he added.

To continue on from last year’s success, DBE is again undertaking activities in Dubai throughout the year to further boost the city’s profile as a business events destination.
