The UAE registered an annual surge of 64% in trademark registrations, totalling 4,610 in Q1, according to official data.
The figures published by the nation’s Ministry of Economy show a significant increase from the 2,813 registrations during the same time last year.
In March alone, 2,018 new brands were recorded, Arab News reports.
During this period, the trademarks registered cover a broad range of key sectors, spanning from smart technology and transportation to food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, finance, real estate, and more.
Furthermore, during January and February, 2,592 trademarks were listed, underscoring the ongoing growth and momentum in the UAE’s registrations.
As the nation strives to solidify its status as a global business hub, trademark registrations emerge as a vital metric signalling economic vitality and growth propelled by innovation.
Earlier this week, the Ministry of Economy said on X: “Worked on developing the trademark registration service, using the latest technologies and innovative solutions to achieve higher efficiency and better interaction with clients.”
The UAE's commitment to upholding international treaties and agreements provides additional reinforcement to its trademark registration system.
Through its commitment to agreements such as the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property and the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS), the UAE streamlines international trademark registration and enforcement, the Arab News report adds.
Additionally, the nation has implemented mechanisms to uphold trademark rights and combat infringement effectively.
These mechanisms encompass civil remedies like damages, injunctions, and seizure of infringing goods. Furthermore, criminal penalties are imposed for trademark counterfeiting and piracy, ensuring robust enforcement of intellectual property rights.
