The Ministry of Economy in the UAE has revealed its new headquarters within the metaverse, where it is set to offer its full range of services to more people in the virtual world.
This “third address” will add to the physical offices located in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and according to the Minister of Economy, Abdulla bin Touq, will allow governments, businesses and individuals to interact from anywhere in the world, The National reports.
This address within the metaverse is part of a key update to the ministry’s website, as it works towards making digital services a major part of operations, in line with the UAE leadership's directives, the Minister of Economy stated.
“We're going to provide full services into the metaverse aspect and reskill the whole team at the ministry in the aspect where we can provide services,” he said.
“We want to replace our website, basically. Rather than having a 2D website you have an immersive 3D metaverse where you can go in and interact with people.”
According to Harvard Business Review, the metaverse is generally regarded as a network of 3-D virtual worlds where people can interact, do business, and forge social connections through their virtual “avatars.”
Furthermore, visitors to the Ministry of Economy’s HQ will be able to sign legally binding documents, scrapping the need for signatories to visit a physical location to provide signatures.
In addition, the metaverse headquarters also features an auditorium to hold virtual conferences and other events, Cointelegraph reports.
This latest announcement follows on from the Dubai government’s Metaverse strategy unveiled in July, aiming to generate 40,000 jobs by 2030 and working towards increasing the number of blockchain companies.
“With advanced physical and digital infrastructure, highly-skilled talent and pro-business laws, the UAE has the competitive advantages to become one of the world’s top 10 metaverse economies, and a global hub for investments in this field,” Mr bin Touq added.
